New Lunch Time Tennis Clubs – Great Success!!

The tennis clubs have been up and running in Term 2 with considerable success. We were inundated with responses, especially for the Year 3/4 club. Any children who did not get a space last term will be automatically given a space this term. The Year 3/4 club is very nearly full already!

Year 2 had an opportunity to play tennis with the school at Wye Tennis Club for the first time which was thoroughly enjoyed. We will be looking to see if Year 2 would like to participate in another term of this. Year 5 and 6 tennis club will begin in Term 4.

May I take this opportunity to remind parents that when the children are in the juniors, it is their responsibility to remember to attend Tennis Club. They should come with the correct kit and change at break time. While I do try and monitor the club and the class teachers remind the children to change and attend, no money will be reimbursed if your child forgets to attend the club or drops out half way through as we have a commitment with Tom and Laurence. Thank you.

Year 5/6 Tennis
Well done to the 2 year 5 teams who competed in the Year 5/6 Tennis Competition at the North School. A very successful afternoon resulted in a first and second place overall!

Bromley Tennis CHAMPS!

After qualifying at Polo Farm, 4 doubles pairs travelled to Bromley to take part in their doubles finals. Anya and Ellen were playing in the Red Ball Finals while Bronwyn, Sasha, Ed, Daniel, Louis and Lucas were in the Green Ball Finals.

Anya and Ellen had some well fought matches. They won some and lost narrowly 10-9 or 10-8. Bronwyn and Sasha played some difficult teams but did incredibly well, coming 5th in their box.

In their box, Ed and Daniel won 1 game and lost 2. Lucas and Louis won all their matches in their box. This meant in the quarter final, the boys had to play one another. After some incredible tennis, the result was 16-13 to Louis and Lucas.

This meant Lucas and Louis were through to the semi-final with Ed and Daniel through to the consolation semi-final. Both pairs won their respective matches. In the consolation final Daniel and Ed won against Kent College! Lucas and Louis met Luddenham in the overall final. They won this meaning they are the best doubles pair in Kent! Wow! What an achievement!!

Well done to all who travelled to Bromley. There was some superb tennis seen from all players.

3rd Place in Kent – Tennis Champions!

After having won the Year 3/4 Ashford Tennis competition, Daniel, Matthew, Anya and Ellen went through to the regional finals which were held at Sevenoaks School. We were put in a draw with East Coastal, Tonbridge and Gravesham C. We won 11/12 matches, which meant we qualified first in our group. We therefore went through to the Championship group, including Dover, Sevenoaks and Canterbury City. In the semi-finals we played Sevenoaks. Although all four children raised their game, due to some points that didn't go our way, we lost. This meant we were in the 3rd/4th playoff against Dover. Daniel and Matthew narrowly lost 7-5, but Anya and Ellen won their first match. It was down to the final matches; both pairs were superb and both matches were won.

This means that out of hundreds of teams that entered the tennis tournaments, Lady J are 3rd for tennis in Kent! An amazing achievement and one the children have worked incredibly hard for!

Red Doubles Championship

Well done to Aimee, Lucy, Anya and Ellen who played at Polo Farm in the Red Girls double competition. Lucy and Aimee played against St Stevens, Deal and Lady J. They won 20-6 against St Stevens and 16-5 against Deal. They lost to Lady J1 13-8. The girls came 2nd in the group! Anya and Ellen played Kingsnorth, Deal and Lady J2. The girls won all their matches which means they are through to the Championships at Bromley!

Year 3/4 Ashford Mini-Tennis Tournament

18 schools competed in the tennis tournament at the North School. Lady J were in a pool with Aldington, Charing, St Marys and Wittersham. Daniel and Matthew played as one doubles team with Anya and Ellen making up the second pairing.

Lady J won both their matches against Charing, Aldington and Wittersham. When playing St Marys, Daniel and Matthew won with Anya and Ellen narrowly losing. This meant Lady J and St Marys finished on the same number of points. We therefore had to play in a play off against St Marys, with the strongest pair on both teams playing for a place in the Championship group. Daniel and Matthew played this match and at 6-6 it went down to the final point. The boys played fantastically and managed to win the point; Lady J won the match 7-6. This put us through to the Championship group, playing the other teams who had also come first in their groups.

We played Tenterden in the semi-finals. Daniel and Matthew played first. Again, the match came down to the final point, which they lost. Anya and Ellen then played against their doubles pair 2; they were superb and won by a considerable margin. This meant Lady J went through to the final on points.

We played Godinton in the finals and both pairs won their matches, playing skilful tennis. This meant they were the Champions of the Ashford Year 3/4 Mini Tennis Tournament and they now go onto the regional finals on the 11th June in Sevenoaks. Good luck!

Year 3/4 Ashford Mini-Tennis Festival

On 3rd June, 8 children took part in the mini-tennis festival, held at the North School. Spurred on after lots of tennis success, the children were very excited and determined to do well. We entered two team: Lady J Stars (Ben, Callum, Camilla and Owen) and Lady J Stripes (Anton, Josh, May and Ewan).

Lady J Stars were in a group with John Wesley and Tenterden. Against John Wesley, both doubles pairs won comfortably. Tenterden was harder, and the players raised their games to beat both their doubles pairs, despite the wind picking up and difficult conditions. This meant Lady J Stars had won the group and were through to the Championship.

Lady J Stripes were in a group with Aldington and Wittersham. Unfortunately, Aldington did not turn up, which meant the teams played one another twice, with doubles partners swapping. Every time the team played, they won against Wittersham, with all the children raising their game! Lady J Stripes were also through to the Championship!

Stars and Stripes were in the Championship with Godinton and Kingsnorth Lions. Lady J Stars played Godinton and won both doubles pairs. Lady J Stripes played Kingsnoth and won! Therefore, it was a Lady J versus Lady J final! It was incredibly close between Josh and Anton versus Ben and Callum, but in the end Ben and Callum won with a few points in hand. Owen and Camilla played brilliantly to beat Ewan and May.

Lady J came 1st and 2nd in the festival! We are beginning to get a reputation amongst the Ashford schools that all we do is play tennis!

Red Girls Team tennis

The Red Girls team consisting of Anya, Ellen, Aimee and Lucy went to Bromley to play in the Kent School tournament. They were in a group with Amherst, Bromley High 2, Russell House 2 and Granville 1. The girls won against Bromley High 2 and Russell House 2, narrowly losing to the other two teams. They played some excellent tennis and worked incredibly hard throughout the afternoon. Well done, girls!

Tennis – Boys Green Team

At Bromley High School the Year five boys tennis team went through an up and down tournament.

In our first matches everyone gave all they had coming second in our box. In our box we had three of the semi-finalists from last year including Bickley, Eltham and ourselves, also there was Eltham two. We won three of these fixtures losing to a team with supposedly the best player in Kent; they proceeded to win the tournament.

In the semi-final everyone gave everything they had left and winning the match very closely. In the final we played Bickley once again, this time it was closer than it was in the group stages and we narrowly lost by four points.

Our number three, Daniel gave a mighty effort beating the number one in Kent.

Tennis Championships

Our fantastic Year 3&4 players Daniel, Matthew, Anya and Ellen  won the Ashford Tennis Tournament.  They are now through to the Kent Primary School Tennis Championship!

Meanwhile we have a number of children attending the Bromley Tennis Tournaments.  This week Sasha, Bronwyn, Olivia and Flora can 5th – well done!

During the Easter holidays, Miss Law attended the LTA Kent Awards Ceremony. The event was to celebrate success for both teams and individuals who have achieved at an incredibly high level in their tennis. Lady J won the award for Kent Tennis School of the Year, due in part to so many of us being able to benefit from professional coaching and to our success in tournaments, such as Bromley. It is a great accolade and one we would love to build on over the years!

This term Daniel, Matthew, Ellen and Anya will be representing Lady J at a Year 3/4 tennis tournament against other local Ashford schools. At the beginning of Term 6, Miss Law will be taking 2 teams of Year 3 and 4 children to a Tennis Festival. Let's hope for great competition, sportsmanship and super play!

Beginning on the 14th May, children in Year 2-5 will be taking part in LTA Tennis Tournaments. The children will be playing in teams and doubles matches against other schools from all over Kent. It will be very exciting to find out how they all get on and an amazing experience for all involved.

Good luck to: Aimee Manktelow, Lucy Jamieson, Anya Carroll, Ellen Andrews, Charlie Phillips, Oliver Hargroves, Anton Davies, Joshua Wright, Daniel, Ben and Matthew Sussams, Sofiane Benaissa, Joseph Tuohy, Olivia Phillips, Bronwyn Hall, Flora Mattocks, Sasha Harriman, Ed Milloy, Daniel Bradley Lucas Hanley and Louis Temple!
